Welcome, sounds like a neat project. I made a Pinto Pickup truck from a Pinto Wagon in college, never got it totally finished but learned a bunch in the process. Saw one just the other day in Colorado I'd like to save, I loved that car. I'd love to see pictures of your Cruiser..
On a related note a good buddy calls the jeep he bought from me Bam Bam.
