Default Hello from QLD, Australia

Hello all,

Jake here from QLD, Australia. Have been lurking around looking at metalwork websites for years now and have never done too much about it as I never had the room to swing a hammer (university then city job got in the way).

Before I went away to uni, I spent just about every waking second in the shed with my old man working on my first car (EH holden) which I still have. When I finally get a shed again, the plan is to restore it plus find a few other projects to "invest" in. Seeing something you put together with your own hands gives a great sense of accomplishment - something I want to rediscover.

At the moment I spend a bit of time at the in-laws place and have access to a good shed to have a bit of a muck around. I have purchased a few hand tools and DVD's from Mr. Peter Tommasini with the intention to get a feel for working with sheet metal and hope this forum will help the process.

In terms of skills which I can offer the forum in the short term, I am not to sure. I am a structural engineer so can undertake finite element analysis (stress modeling) of plate structures like english wheels etc. so let me know if anyone has a project I can help with.

Looking forward to being apart of the forum. I dont think there is a big metalwork scene here in Australia but if anyone has a project underway around Gladstone QLD and needs a free pair of hands, please let me know.

Kind Regards,
Jake

Welcome Jake. Love the EH utes, probably still my favourite car. Went to uni at Rocky but live in Scotland now.

Thank you all for the warm welcome.

Mitch, Rocky to Scotland sounds like it would have been a very interesting transition.... Always good to see a fan of the old EH's.

Best Regards,
Jake

Welcome Jake, I'm another QLD member (and an engineer too, though electrical), but down in Brisbane. Lots of enviable skills to soak in on this website. I've barely even had the opportunity to comment yet, still too much great work to read about.

It gets worse Jake, I was living in Roxby Downs in SA before I moved here, summer highs of 52c and now if we hit 20c it's a hot day here in Aberdeen.

I have a couple old Volvos now (don't laugh too much), Amazon station wagon and a P1800E, both really cool cars.

Glad to see a few Aussies - thanks for making me feel welcome! There is so much info on here thats for sure. I'm tackling it one night at a time, had a lot of late nights this week reading through some of the builds.

Thanks guys,

Kind Regards,
Jake
