Hi I'm Bill and I live in Hayward, CA. I work as a race tech in a vintage race prep shop and am also the shops primary machinist. I do a little sheet metal work there and would love to learn more about it. I've been into cars since I was a teen and currently have a '97 Miata that's my daily/track toy and a '67 International Travelall which is having some restoration and mods done to it (converting it from 2WD to 4X4). I also like photography and study martial arts.
Looking forward to picking people brains and learning a lot... ![]() Here's a pic from work so you all can see what I get to play with... ![]()

Hello Bill:
Nice shop. Is that a Shadow I see in the top right? I'm in N. CA---Willits. I just recently welded up a 63 Cobra for Campble Auto Restoration. Is that near you?

Welcome Bill,
I grew up in Fremont and I'm currently living in San Jose. I'll have to come check out your shop sometime if you guys allow visitors. I have only done very limited machining, but would love to get into it more in the future. It comes in handy to make tools which help in metal shaping. What type of martial arts? I'm a Judo/Jiu Jitsu man myself, but have myself out of shape as if late due to not attending recently. I used to work at a Hot Rod shop about a mile from them. They were our competition in a way, but they focused on body work and we did everything else.

Shawn:
I just bought a 53 F100 last Friday. It has a Cleveland and C6 in it. What front suspension do you have under the one in your site? I suspect a 9" is under the rear. Is it a 4 link?

That particular truck has a Heidt's Mustang 2 front crossmember, and a Jaguar independent rear. The other ones we built at the shop normally consisted of a triangulated 4 link with Currie or Fab9 rear end and Shockwaves all around. I'm not a fan of the Shockwaves but my boss used to sell them like hotcakes so we used them a lot.
My biddy has a 53 with a Monte Carlo front clip, 4 link rear, and bags all around that gets 11" of lift in the front and 14 in the rear and cost less than the Shockwaves. A little more fabrication, but well worth the extra travel IMO.
